Operation Route 66 is a film project being produced by father and son Team Kurt and Nick Gerber. The goal of the project is to raise awareness of the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the wars in the Middle East. In may of 2012 the father and son will ride motorcycles across historic Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles and along the way meet with veterans in an attempt to let them tell their story. From these stories Nick and Kurt will create a feature length film and fine art photo book which will be made available to the public. A percentage of the proceeds will go back to Wounded Warrior Project which helps transition wounded servicemembers back into civilian life while giving them the tools they need to live as complete a life as is possible.

Harley is a self proclaimed redneck. He’s located in Erick, OK and is pretty much the main attraction of the town. Harley invited us into his… well, I don’t know what you would call it… establishment (?), served us some beer, came onto us a little, played a stirring rendition of “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” and then talked with us about how he appreciates the work of the men and women of the military. All in all it was an interesting day.

The Operation Route 66 team interviews Ken Hansel a firefighter we met outside of Springfield, MO. We’ve been talking to citizens who haven’t served but want to deliver a message to our veterans. It’s been very rewarding and we’ll keep doing it as we head west! Check us out in Amarillo, Tucamcara, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Flagstaff, Kingman, Joshua Tree, and Los Angeles/ Santa Monica.
